The magnificent Poudre Canyon has tons to offer the outdoor-enthusiast or sight-seer. Glen Echo Resort is set in the Roosevelt National Forest with the Cache La Poudre river running though it. Named in the1820s, when French trappers, caught by a snowstorm, were forced to bury part of their gunpowder along the banks of the river, Cache La Poudre, means “Hiding Place of the Powder”. The river begins in the high peaks of Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park, carves its way through the Big South and Poudre Canyons, and flows east to the city of Fort Collins before emptying into the South Platte River just east of Greeley. The Cache La Poudre is particularly beautiful because it is one of the most protected rivers in the state. Highway 14, which follows the river through the canyon, is a scenic byway between Fort Collins and Walden, CO, in North Park.

Many people enjoy the following activities in the Poudre Canyon and along the Poudre River:
Scenic driving, 4WD/Jeep driving, fishing, hunting, camping,
